You've heard of fractional laser therapy. But a new technology, called the Miratone,™ combines the fractional method with radiofrequency for the first time.
Unlike other RF systems, this system is minimally invasive, using a disposable microneedle array to precisely deliver energy to the deep dermis. Because of the needle penetration, treatment requires local anesthesia. However, sensors within the electrode tips continually measure tissue temperature. Thus, with Miratone, physicians can select tissue temperature and treatment duration as clinical endpoints vs. blindly applying a fixed dose of energy.
Patients only need one treatment to achieve lasting results, according to the manufacturer. The technology is currently being used for facial rejuvenation and takes between 30 and 45 minutes for treatment.
The system, which was showcased at this year's American Society of Laser Medicine and Surgery's Annual Show, is being introduced by Primaeva, based in Pleasanton, Calif.
